Butler-Gast YMCA announces final operational day to make way for new facility and North High stadium through Project Game ON
On June 18, the YMCA of Greater Omaha announced that the final day of member operations at the current Butler-Gast YMCA will be Friday, July 18, 2025, at 5:00 p.m., as the organization prepares for the next phase of Project Game ON, the transformational plan to build a brand-new Butler-Gast YMCA alongside a new North High stadium to serve the North Omaha community for generations to come.
After July 18, the Butler-Gast YMCA will officially close to members to allow for careful site preparation. Equipment and supplies will be repurposed and relocated for use at other YMCA locations, and the project team will begin pre-construction activities to keep the timeline for the new facility and stadium on track.
For 30 years, the Butler-Gast YMCA has served as a vital hub for youth development, healthy living and community-building in North Omaha. Thousands of individuals and families have found connections, support and opportunity within its walls.
“We are deeply grateful for the 30 years of service, memories and impact this facility has provided to our community thanks to the dedication of our incredible staff and volunteers,” said Rebecca Deterding, President and CEO of the YMCA of Greater Omaha. “This is a special place, and we are thrilled to see the vision of a reimagined Butler-Gast YMCA take shape. The new YMCA and North High stadium represent a transformational investment in North Omaha that will create new opportunities, programs and partnerships for future generations.”
Current Butler-Gast YMCA members will continue to enjoy full access to all 12 YMCA locations across the Omaha metro, including nearby branches such as Maple Street YMCA and Downtown YMCA, during the construction period. Many members have already begun visiting these locations to stay connected to their fitness and wellness routines.
To honor the legacy of the current Butler-Gast YMCA, a special retirement party celebration will be held at the branch in July. This event will offer members, staff and community partners a chance to gather, share memories and reflect on the lasting impact the facility has had on so many people. Event details will be shared soon.
